LAS VEGAS, NV - While Adtec Digital's contribution solutions support DVBS/S2, ASI and IP transport platforms concurrently, the EN81 multi-CODEC encoder/modulator and RD60 IRD both support DVBS2 32APSK in addition to the industry standard Q and 8PSK modulation formats.

"At Adtec, we believe all three transport mediums are very relevant and we have worked aggressively to make the most of each application and market mandates," said Kevin Ancelin, SVP and Sales Director for Adtec.

"32APSK is amazing technology that really works," said Ancelin. "It enables upwards of 120 Mbs of data throughput in a 36 Mhz transponder, effectively changing the way satellite transport is utilized."

By combining 32APSK with AVC (MPEG 4) a full 36 Mhz satellite transponder can now deliver six tier one contribution quality services in the same 36 Mhz previously used to deliver one HD MPEG 2 service with DBVS and QPSK technology.

"This changes the rules and economics of the game," says Adrian Hepes, Engineering Director at TV2Go in Toronto.

TV2GO and its partner SM2 Sports are delivering Trans-Atlantic sporting events using 32APSK. Unfortunately, there is a stigma surrounding and fear of 32APSK based on old standards and practices, according to Hepes, transmission professionals must engage and learn this new technology, new practices and standards are required. Testing has proven that carrier to noise matters the most, not the traditional link margin.

Successful 32APSK transmission can be achieved using KU on a 2.4 M reflector with power levels as low as 15 watts. The combination of AVC and 32APSK can reliably deliver single channel HD service in as little as 3 Mhz.

Adtec chose to partner with Newtec for its DVBS/S2 technology. With the introduction of the EN8x line at NAB 2011, Newtec modulation has been an integrated option for Adtec encoders, and unit volume continues to ramp.

"We identified Newtec as the leader in advanced satellite modulation after working with their stand-alone modulators," said Ancelin.

"Adtec is a great OEM partner, they are innovative professionals who came to us with a plan and have executed, working with their management and engineering has been a positive experience," said Slava Frayter, VP Sales Americas for Newtec.
